Evie's first Christmas

w

Evie turned 7 months on the 5th and oh what a month it has been! More parties seeing the Spira's and the Mixa's! She is jabbering away like crazy! Earlier this month it was sticking her tongue out and making bubbles. That turned into making motorboat sounds and ba ba ba ba ba, then today she started with da da da. It has been so cool watching her speech evolve. No words yet (although I swear she has been saying 'hi' at totally appropriate times for months now! She is getting up on all fours with no problem and almost crawling. She can now push herself up from laying down to a sitting position and keeps trying to pull herself up on tables, footstools and her favorite thing to pull herself up on is me!

6 month photo shoot

Here are some recent pics of Evie at 6 months. She has a new toy she really likes- it is one of those mesh bags that you put frozen food (or in our case frozen spring water) in and they can safely chew on it- and she threw it on the floor. Paul got up to take it to rinse off and she just screamed and pouted as he walked away. He turned around to see what was the matter and she was all smiles. They danced that routine another couple of times and we both just shook our heads b/c she is now pitching a fit to try to get her way. Why didn't anyone tell me this could happen so soon? Good thing she is so darn cute!

Oh boy! It has been a while since I updated and I really don't think anyone is checking this anymore but....... This is my attempt at a baby book so I am resolving to do better in updating! What a great summer we had! Evie met Roland, and her cousins from Arkansas, we went for may hiking adventures, and she has developed so quickly! I cried when I had to put her infant size diaper covers away and take out the larger size!

Today I made some coconut milk ice cream (Evie is allergic to all things dairy......colic) and was eating the part that was frozen solid to the sides of the ice cream bowl. Every time I dipped the spoon into the bowl, she would just scream then when I brought the ice cream out she would smile and giggle. I could not figure it out for the life of me when I realized what she wanted was the spoon! GoGo introduced a spoon to her last week at Jackie's and she really thinks they are cool! I laughed so hard b/c it is amazing how well they communicate with us with out language! She is just the coolest thing ever to have around!

Here are some recent pics, wish I had more but my other camera died and I have not had the pics transferred to a disc yet.

She is turning into a regular chubby bubby and I looooooooovvvvvvveeeeeeee it! Hope to have more videos up soon! MM

Evie finds her voice and her mobile

This is Evie at 9 weeks old. She found her mobile at about 7 weeks but now really favors the rhino and the elephant on it. She also started making this deep sound and realized that it was her making it. She would say "mmmmrrrrrrr" then pause, look around, do it again and repeat. It was so funny watching her make the sounds and enjoying them on her own!

Ok Ok, alright already

Hi all.... thanks for checking in! I know we have not updated the blog in a couple of weeks. Evie and I have been having a great time staying at the cottage with my mom and dad a couple of nights a week. We have a family of swans this year that make their rounds in the lagoon which is really cool. We have never really seen a family of swans regularly visit us- pretty cool.

Paul, Sandra, Donald, and I all went to the Steve Miller Band and Joe Cocker concert at Summer Celebration this past Thursday. Joe was awesome but Steve Miller has had better concerts! We had a great time together and it seems that summer has finally arrived now that the concert season in Muskegon is here! Aunt Avis and Chadsitty babysat Evie and of course did a wonderful job!

Evie, Don, Sandra, and I also visited Hazel on her 80-something birthday! She loved the strawberry shortcake we brought her! Bob really wasn't all that impressed!

This past weekend we traveled to Chicago and Evelyn finally met her Mixa family! She was also baptized with her Uncle Bobby and Aunt Andrea as Godparents. The ceremony was wonderful and we had a very fun party afterward and celebrated along with Samantha who just graduated from high school. (And we even got to eat cake!)

Today Evie had her 2 month weigh in..... she is now 10 pounds 4 ounces and 22 inches long- I cannot believe how fast she is growing and evolving! I am so fortunate to be able to be home with her and see every face she makes and hear every grunt!! :)

Father's Day

Paul had his first Father's Day. Evie and I took him out for breakfast and later we saw my family and the Siscoe clan at Linda's house. Evie met Great, Great Uncle Bob, Vicki, Sheri, Dwayne, and Mary for the first time. Uncle Bob grabbed a hold of Evie as if he has held a baby or two in his time! We had a delicious grill out and a lovely evening!

We call her Grunty McGillicutty

Evie, Emma, Lucy and I took our first walk together. The weather was wonderful and the sun was shining and Evie grunted the whole time! I enjoyed getting some fresh air and getting out of the house. I am setting a goal of getting out of the house more often and getting some sun rays on my face! On this outing, I am very thankful that Emma did not roll in anything really stinky as is the norm!

Shirley always called my cousins, my sister and me her grunts while she was giving us chores to do around her house. Although it wasn't my favorite nickname, I am shocked to say that I call Evie my grunt all the time! She is just a grunter. She grunts morning, noon, and night! Here is a video clip of her grunting on our walk.

She is just so entertaining to have in my life!

The other day she started smiling at me. It doesn't happen all the time but she will occasionally look me directly in the eyes and a huge smile will come across her face. It is intensional rather than instinctual now- SO AWESOME!!!

We made it into cloth diapers.......Yippy?

Prior to Evie's birth, Paul and I bought all of the cloth diapers we will need for her from birth to potty training. When she got home, she was too small for them. She was permanently doing the splits whenever she wore them. Paul was not happy about it but we have been using disposable the last 5 weeks until she got a bit bigger. Tuesday, Roxy helped me get her into the cloth diapers so although I am super duper excited to not be throwing all of those diapers away, I am also aware of the extra loads of laundry I will be doing. Oh well, it will be worth it to keep all of those nasty chemicals away from my baby's skin. 100% cotton feels so nice!

Let me just say that we are much more excited about it than Evelyn... at least today!

Our big night out!

Evie and I talked GoGo into going to see the new Indiana Jones movie at the drive in movie theater. Although the movie was a bit disappointing, we had a great time and Evie was so good! It was perfect because we could control the volume in the car and I could still feed the baby on demand without really being out in public.

By the time the movie was over, I was way too sleepy to drive back to GH so we spent the night. GoGo made a bed for Evie out of a suitcase, the seat cushions from the swing, and NoGo's cowboy sheets :)

Maybe because she was getting used to the feel of the cloth diapers, we had our first all nighter. I thought I was sleepy at 1am when the movie was over....... by 6am when she finally fell asleep I was exhausted! Good thing she is so darn cute!

The next day, we had a very long bath and happy naked time while the cotton diapers were in the wash (I only packed a few as I did not plan on spending the night). It was fun and Evie and I will go to the drive in again- I hope we can convince GoGo to go too!
